Sweet Tomato Heel Socks

A couple of weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to take a class sponsored by My Sister Knits in Fort Collins and taught by Cat Bordhi, who is possibly one of the most inventive knitters of her generation. The topic of the class was Cat’s Sweet Tomato Heel, a heel that’s knit without a heel flap and without using short rows. Here’s the result:

It was a bit difficult to understand how it works at first, but it came together beautifully. Cat is a fabulous teacher and made sure that everyone in the class was ‘getting it’. By the end of the day-long class I had completed one sock and completed the second about a week later.

Thanks to Amy for mentioning the class; it’s always more fun to take a class with a friend!

Three Sisters Scarf #3

For the past couple of months, I haven’t really had any knitting mojo. What I needed was a quick, easy, yet pretty project to get it back. Enter Three Sisters Scarf #3:

I knit this with a silk/seacell blend yarn that I picked up at the Estes Park Wool Market.

This pattern has a nice, easy to memorize pattern repeat; a perfect “I want to knit but not have to concentrate too hard” project!

First Quilt

Last night I took a quilting class with some friends at Fabric Bliss, a new sewing store in Denver. Since I don’t think I’ve used a sewing machine since 7th grade – a long, long time ago – I was a bit nervous going in but it turned out to be a lot of fun.

Our projects were small – just a simple placement – but it was enough to teach me some quilting basics, like piecing, “stitching in the ditch” etc. Here’s the result:

My First Quilting Project

I thought it turned out pretty well considering I’m a complete beginner.

Thanks for organizing this, Amy!
